Clearly, Microsoft seems ready to do anything to make Bing popular, even to undermine his own reputation. New pop-ups on Windows are still trying to push Internet users towards the company’s search engine.

Microsoft continues to push hard. After advertisements praising the Edge browser during a search for “Google Chrome”, after a survey imposed on Internet users wanting to download the Google browser and after a more or less legitimate data siphoning tactic, here is what the software giant is looking for to convince Internet users to go to Bing with unwanted pop-ups.

A slightly invasive pop-up

As noted by the specialized site Windows Latest, Microsoft has started to deploy a major advertising campaign within Windows 10 and 11 to make Bing the default browser for Chrome. Using a very discreet notification, the company wants to convince users of the Google-made browser to install the Bing extension which changes the Chrome search engine.

In order to potentially convince impressionable Internet users, Microsoft highlights the integration of ChatGPT-4 in Bing and promises that it is easy to “go back» if the Bing results don’t suit you. Unfortunately, this last point is not entirely true.

Indeed, to protect itself from malware which tends to modify the search engine, Chrome usually displays a pop-up to ask if the action was indeed requested by the Internet user behind the screen. Under this pop-up, Microsoft displays a second one which asks to “do not switch back» and warns that if you come back to Google instead of Bing you will lose “access to Bing Search“.

Microsoft promises that this new campaign in favor of Bing is “exceptional» and click “No» on the first pop-up that appears will permanently rid you of this notification. “We want to offer choice to our customers», Indicates Microsoft to justify this new, somewhat aggressive marketing campaign.

As a reminder, Google controls more than 90% of searches carried out in the world and Bing is at 3 and a few percent. No wonder Microsoft is seeking to shake up the dominance of the Mountain View firm, but the methods used here have nothing to envy of those of the most insistent malware.
