The screenshot app Snipping Tool integrated in Windows 10 and 11 can be set so that it can be called up by pressing a button. We’ll show you how.
You can create a screenshot of the entire screen in Windows using the print key; the key combination Alt-Print captures an image of the currently open window. However, you can also set the Print Screen key to invoke the Snipping Tool, which is Windows 10 and 11’s built-in screenshot app.
To do this, call up “Settings” via the start menu and open “Ease of Access” (in Windows 11: “Accessibility”). In Windows 10, scroll down the column on the left and click on “Keyboard”, in Windows 11 you will find the entry in the main window. In the window that opens, scroll down again and set the switch to “On” for “Use the Print Screen key to open the screen clippings function”.

You can set Windows to automatically start the snipping tool for taking screenshots when you press the print key.
Now start the snipping tool with the print key: At the top edge of the screen you can choose whether you want to select a rectangle, a free form, the current window or the entire screen. The image outlined with the mouse cursor ends up on the clipboard, from where you can paste it into any graphics program. Clicking on the preview at the bottom right transfers the data to the workspace of the snipping tool.
