If you use a VPN or similar services, you should stay away from the April security update for Windows 10 and Windows 11 for now. Many PC users have already complained about the update, and now Microsoft also admits that the installation is causing problems.
For many Windows users, the update (KB5036893) is causing significant VPN connection problems. In the worst case scenario, you will no longer be able to use your VPN client at all. The same can happen if you install the April 2024 preview update. Microsoft says it is working on the problem. There will be an update in the next version release.
Windows Update: Emergency solutions only help temporarily
If you are an avid VPN user who regularly uses it to stream content from abroad or hides your IP address while surfing the Internet, you may not want to install the update at first.
If you have already run it, you can uninstall it via the Windows settings and the update history there so that your VPN service works properly again. The problem: Without the update, your system is less protected and may have one or two security holes.
Alternatively, Microsoft advises everyone who has installed the update to either use the Windows Help app (private users) or the Microsoft Support for Business portal (companies). But even these options only help temporarily.
