Microsoft has rolled out a new update to the Photos app in Windows 10. The latter offers many features, but also loses some, and not least.
Users who liked to make quick edits to their videos with the built-in tool in Windows Photos will find it bitterly gone from the system for good. Although the button to access the editor is still visible, A message like “Microsoft’s video editor is no longer available in the Photos app” will appear if you click on it.
Fortunately, projects you saved with the old video editor will still be accessible. To recover them, you will first need to download the old Photos application (Legacy Photos) in Settings. “For your new videos, unleash your creativity with ClipChamp”, a “quick and easy video editor”, which offers everything you need to create remarkable videos, without special expertise.
Microsoft removes video editor from Photos app, users are pissed
Besides the fact that it is necessary to be connected to the Internet to benefit from this application, users will also realize that you have to pay to enjoy previously free features in Photos. Moreover, some users claim on Windows 10 Feedback Hub that the weight of files created with ClipChamp is much larger than an equivalent video in Photos video editor. An unacceptable situation in their eyes, even if for some Internet users, ClipChamp is part of unwanted software.
One of them testifies: “I created a video using the same images, text and mp4 with Windows “Photos legacy editor” and Clipchamp. The resulting exported files were 1 GB for “photo editor” and 5 GB for Clipchamp. Why are file sizes so different? Both are 1080 HD MP4 files. When I upload to YouTube, the “photo editor” version uploads in less than 25 minutes due to its size, while the “same video” created by Clipchamp, which is five times larger, takes more than an hour! I much prefer “photo editor” and was so frustrated that I had to download the old version of photo and video editor”. Unless Microsoft reverses its decision, it is now up to ClipChamp developers to respond to these kinds of requests.
