New bug on the side of Microsoft’s operating systems. This time Windows 10 users are facing a pop-up that seems to be after their money.

Last week, a gigantic prompt to install Windows 11 popped up in Windows 10. Although relatively intrusive, this one at least had the merit of giving you a choice. A luxury that the new bug of the day does not offer you. At least not apparently…

Windows 10: after the invasive banners…

Since 2018, pop-up windows can occasionally appear in Windows 10. These are above all designed to highlight Microsoft’s flagship services (OneDrive, Microsoft 365, etc.) and introduce them to as many customers as possible. If, until now, it stopped at the presence of more or less intrusive banners, recently, the operating system has hosted a window that does not seem to want to let you go.

As just reported to us by the site of Windows Latest, a new promotional banner is now present in Windows 10. The problem? An unfortunate bug simply prevents customers from ignoring the offer in question without checking out…

…windows that require you to pay?

A few weeks after the deployment of Windows 10 22H2, some users are now facing a bug that is to say the least… annoying. A window extolling the merits of Microsoft 365 has recently appeared. Beyond its invasive appearance, it obviously leaves no other choice but to take out the credit card. If the screen displays two options, namely “Try for free” and “No thanks”, a surprise awaits those who have opted for the second choice. Yes, by choosing “No thanks”, the page, rather than gently redirecting you to your desktop, returns you to a purchase screen to register for Microsoft 365.

Don’t worry, this story has a happy ending. In fact, by opting to “Try for free”, you can finally go about your business without spending a penny. So the downfall of this story is that the functions of the two buttons have simply been reversed. So, if you find yourself facing this banner in Windows 10 (and the problem still hasn’t been solved at that point), you’ll know to click “Try for free” to have peace of mind. Still according to our colleagues from Windows Latest, a Microsoft source has also indicated that it was obviously not an intentional decision, but simply a nasty bug. Phew!
