Are you on Windows 11? So you will soon have no choice but to install the latest version, if that is not the case yet. Indeed, Microsoft has started the automatic deployment of Windows 11 22H2 to users still on 21H2, in anticipation of the end of support, scheduled for October.
Not everyone has switched to Windows 11 yet — far from it, in fact — Microsoft already wants all of its users to be on the latest version. Barely a few months after the rollout of 22H2, last year’s major update, the Redmond company is starting today to force its installation with users who stayed on 21H2.
“Since Windows 10, we’ve been helping Windows users stay up-to-date and secure with supported versions of Windows through Automatic Updates. We’re using this same approach for Windows 11 to help you stay protected and productive.”, Microsoft said. This forced update comes as the official end of support for Windows 11 21H2 approaches. It is scheduled for the June 10, 2023.
No more choice, Microsoft imposes Windows 11 22H2 on users
The deployment will be done gradually, starting with devices running on Windows 11 21H2 for the longest time. This strategy allows Microsoft to provide its users with the latest features of its OS, but also the latest security updates, essential to benefit from maximum protection.

No need to wait for your PC to offer it to you, however. If you want to take the leap today, just go to the Settings of Windows, then in Windows Update and click on Check for updates. The system will then offer you to carry out the update itself.
Note that some devices may encounter some problems during installation. Indeed, a specific driver can block the update, namely the driver Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) for Rocket Lake processors. We advise you to first download the latest version of this driver before updating, otherwise you may trigger blue screens of death on your PC.
