The 24H2 version of Windows 11, expected for next fall, should ultimately be deployed in several stages. According to Microsoft’s roadmap, the update should first land on PCs with ARM architecture.
By the end of the year, the Redmond firm plans to publish the 24 H2 update of Windows 11. Very focused on artificial intelligence, this already promises to considerably shake up the Windows ecosystem with the integration of new features. Among them, we find in particular “Super Resolution”, an option which will allow PC players to improve the fluidity and rendering of their games thanks to AI.
While we were waiting for this update for the next school year, more precisely between the months of September and October, it could well be that Microsoft will carry out a deployment in two stages. Indeed, the American giant should open the floodgates of Windows 11 24H2 from next June, but for certain users only.
Windows 11 24H2: an update in several waves?
According to information shared by our colleagues at Windows Central, Microsoft is reportedly close to releasing a finalized version of Windows 11 24H2 to manufacturers in early April. This crucial step, more commonly called RTM (Release To Manufacturers), allows different companies to check if the OS is stable enough to be delivered. If, in the past, the RTM version closely resembled the version intended for the general public, apparently this would not be quite the case for the next Windows 11 update.
Yes, Microsoft will continue to work on all the features of Windows 11 24H2 until next summer. Moreover, the company led by Satya Nadella plans to announce a wave of new AI features on May 20 (including the highly anticipated AI Explorer), which will logically be ready for the large-scale release of the update to the next fall.
Based on the latest report from Windows Centralthe first AI PCs, built on ARM, will be unveiled in June, while the final version of Windows 11 24H2 will likely be available from September.
A busy summer for Microsoft
For greater clarity, here is Microsoft’s roadmap for the coming weeks and months with regard to Windows 11 24H2:
- April 2024: Windows 11 version 24H2 reaches the RTM milestone.
- May 2024: Microsoft holds a Windows event to unveil new AI experiences.
- June 2024: The first ARM PCs with the 24H2 version preloaded begin shipping.
- July 2024: Microsoft finalizes the feature set for Windows 11 version 24H2.
- August 2024: Microsoft approves the first feature patch for version 24H2.
- September 2024: Windows 11 version 24H2 + new AI features available for everyone.
Remember, last December, rumors in the corridors already mentioned the possibility that Windows 12 could arrive in June 2024. If the successor to Windows 11 will ultimately not see the light of day this year, it is now clear that the version 24H2 will contain a large number of features initially reserved for the future version of the operating system.
