Windows 11 24H2 will indeed be the major update of Microsoft’s system this year

This is confirmed by Microsoft, Windows 11 will welcome a new update at the end of 2024. The major changes expected in Windows 12particularly in terms of AI, should finally land in the next version of Windows 11.

Microsoft’s plans for its Windows operating systems are finally taking shape. Facing numerous organizational upheavals in recent months, starting with massive layoffs, and the departure of Panos Panay last September, the Redmond firm seems to have made the decision to delay the launch of Windows 12.

The 24H2 update of Windows 11 would now be Microsoft’s priority, with important new features on the program.

Windows 12 will still have to wait

Remember, last December, the specialized site Windows Central, renowned for the reliability of its sources and information, raised the possibility that the next version of Windows might not be called Windows 12.

Indeed, if the rumors until then suggested a launch of the new OS for the year 2024, the recent rumors in the hallway finally suggested that the launch of Windows 12 would have been delayed, in favor of a major update of Windows 11.

Just yesterday, our colleagues from Windows Latest have got their hands on various official documentation (initially intended for developers) confirming the arrival of Windows 11 24H2 for the end of the year.

Windows 11: a major update for the end of 2024

One of the documents unearthed by Windows Latest discusses the EnumDeviceDrivers function, a component allowing developers and administrators to “ retrieve the loading address of each device driver in the system “. Venturing further into the page dedicated to the function, we learn that it will be used differently in Windows 11 24H2.

From what we know, this new version would aim to take Windows 11 into the era of artificial intelligence. Significantly more substantial than the 23H2 update deployed at the end of last year, it would currently be planned for the end of the third semester (or for the beginning of the fourth semester), still according to the information reported by Windows Latest.

If the company headed by Satya Nadella ultimately decides not to deploy the new version of its operating system this year, it is largely to avoid too much fragmentation of its customer base.

As a reminder, Windows 10 and Windows 11 have nearly 1.5 billion users, many of whom still do not have access to the latest version of the OS due to the system configurations required by Microsoft.
