While Microsoft has been working for many months on the new version of its operating system, Windows 11, the latter has been the subject of a certain number of criticisms. Among them, the disappearance of the choice of the location of the taskbar on the screen.
Since Windows 11 has been available to the general public, the taskbar has crystallized many frustrations. The latter, however, benefited, like the Start menu, from a complete overhaul. Despite efforts to customize this bar since the summer of 2021, several criticisms have been leveled at it, in particular concerning the disappearance of drag and drop.
Many users are also disappointed by the lack of another feature, the ability to move the taskbar. Indeed, on Windows 10, it was still possible to place the taskbar on the sides of the screen or at the top, as desired. An option that is unfortunately no longer present on Windows 11.
A feature that is not for now
While drag-and-drop is expected to make a comeback in a major update scheduled for summer 2022, dragging the taskbar is absolutely out of the question. agenda at Microsoft.
Indeed, during a Windows Insider webcast, the development team claimed that they did not plan to add functionality to choose the location of the taskbar. According to her, the Start menu and the OS itself are simply not ready to accommodate this option yet.
“There are a number of challenges when looking at being able to actually move the taskbar to different places on the screen. Think about having the taskbar on the right. All of a sudden, the reflow and the work that apps or the Start menu have to do”explained the firm.
Since Microsoft has completely redesigned this famous taskbar, teams had to prioritize and choose which features to integrate first. Of course, it’s almost certain that moving the taskbar will be added in the future, but we can imagine that it won’t happen until 2023.
