Windows 11 Build 23493 welcomes a long-awaited new feature by users: the addition of a native file compression-decompression tool. Already accessible to some users, this new feature comes at the same time as an improved volume manager in the quick settings.
It is now official (and above all functional), Microsoft has deployed on the latest build of Windows 11 a long-awaited tool to compress-decompress files using a simple right-click. Currently reserved for developers and members of the Insider program who have installed Windows 11 Build 23493, this new feature should be deployed on a large scale this fall with Windows 11 23H2.
Native compression-decompression is in the place
In detail, this tool, accessible once the Windows 11 Dev Channel is activated, allows you to decompress almost any archive with a simple right click, and all natively, without using third-party software. Conversely, it is also possible to compress a file using any of the following formats:
- .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.zst, .tar.xz, .tgz
- .tbz2, .tzst, .txz
- .zip, .rar, .7z
Note, however, that this novelty is accessible on a small scale for a good reason. In the immediate future, it may indeed suffer from some youthful bugs. Windows 11 volume manager becomes more convenient
In parallel with this major new feature, Build 23493 of Windows 11 deploys a more practical volume manager in the quick settings. In particular, it allows you to modify the volume of an application in use in two clicks, without affecting the volume of the system as a whole.
