. An issue identified by Microsoft, which offers a workaround.

This is a simple manipulation that simply requires you to edit the registry in Windows 11 to instruct the ma il box to use its own search engine without relying on Windows indexing.

How to get around the Outlook search bug?

The latest cumulative update for Windows 11 took a toll on Outlook. For the past month, the messaging service has been affected by a bug that prevents it from performing searches. For lack of providing a real fix, Microsoft encourages users of its operating system to work around the problem with a little manipulation. Here is the step by step process:

  • Open the Windows Registry (Win + R and enter: regedit.exe)
  • Go to the following key:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindows
  • Click Edit> New> Key and name the new key “Windows Search”;
  • Select the newly created key and click Edit> New> DWORD Value;
  • Name it “PreventIndexingOutlook” (no spaces) and press enter;
  • Right click on “PreventIndexingOutlook”, click on Modify and then set it to “1”. Validate;
  • Restart Outlook for everything to take effect.
