In September 2022, Microsoft released Windows 11 22H2 update. With this version, the manufacturer has brought new functions to improve security, productivity, accessibility but also gaming on its latest operating system.

Unfortunately, this version of the OS also harbored some bugs. In November 2022, Microsoft admitted that Windows 11’s 22H2 update caused performance drops in some games and apps. On a support page, the Redmond firm clarified that Windows 11 could trigger additional software processes during gameplaywhich can reduce performance: “Affected games and applications inadvertently enable GPU performance debugging features that are not intended for consumer use.

In the process, Microsoft had decided to apply “a compatibility block on devices affected by this issue so that they cannot install Windows 11 version 22H2″. Otherwise, the Redmond firm had recommended that players not install the update before a patch is deployed.

Well, it’s now done. In effect, Microsoft has just released a new patch. If you are on Windows 11 22H2, go to Windows Update to find an update preview KB5020044. Once installed, this update should therefore fix performance issues, in addition to providing fixes for other bugs, improvements for Windows Spotlight and storage alerts for OneDrive. Regarding this last point, these notifications appear when you are close to the storage limit.

As a reminder, in October 2022, we learned that memory integrity and the virtual machine platform could also cause a decrease in game performance. Many players have found that by disabling the virtual machine platform in the Windows Features window, performance was significantly improved. Be careful though, this feature is essential to run Windows Subsystem for Linux and Windows for Android.
