Microsoft begins development of the next major version of Windows 11which is not expected to arrive before 2023.

While work seems almost complete for Windows 11 22H2, with an RTM version which could arrive on May 24, Microsoft engineers are already hard at work for the next revision of the operating system.

A search field placed at the heart of the desktop to save a few seconds with each request

It is on the Dev channel that the publisher’s developers have sent their registered users a new build, numbered 25120, which already brings some new experimental features that could make their way into Windows 11.

The real novelty of this version is the appearance of an interactive desktop. Microsoft would indeed seek to provide more elements that can be used directly by the user without having to go through a menu or an application.

The example given by Microsoft here is a search bar, placed directly at the top of the desktop and quickly accessible to enter a query. The results are then displayed in Microsoft Edge, even if the user has selected another default browser.

This option can be disabled in the system settings, if ever the user does not want widgets on his desktop.

Some under the hood improvements for ARM processors

The release notes also indicate that this build is now compatible with PCs equipped with ARM processors, who can update their machine to this build 25120. ISO files have also been released by Microsoft to achieve a ” clean install of his system.

The build also brings some improvements such as the resolution of a problem of displaying Wi-Fi networks from the quick settings or another that could crash games using an anti-cheat system.

Development will continue throughout 2022 and we will have to wait many more months to find out if this interactive desktop will be one of the major new features of Windows 11 Sun Valley 3, which should be offered to the general public during the year 2023.

Windows 11

  • Graphical redesign of the successful interface
  • Improved Snap
  • Effective anchor groups

To be completely honest, Windows 11 seems to us to be a good evolution of Windows 10. Beyond the very marketing aspect linked to the surprise effect (Windows 10 was presented as the last of the last, remember) and to the essentially graphical redesign of the interface, the update brings a bit of clarity and modernity that are welcome after six years spent with an OS designed to reconcile Microsoft and its audience. We also like the discreet details that make it more functional, such as the improved snap and anchor groups, or even the refined management of virtual desktops. Finally, we are really convinced by the redesign of the Microsoft Store. By agreeing to return to the exclusivity reserved for UWPs, Microsoft is effectively hitting where it is not expected and finally compels itself to catch up on Apple and Google.
