Microsoft has confirmed a bug that affects the display of colors in Windows 11. As stated in the error description from December 24th. In other words, some image editing programs may display colors incorrectly on certain HDR displays. Microsoft wants to fix the problem by the end of January.
Yellow instead of white – but not everywhere
The error is particularly common with white colors, which can instead be displayed in bright yellow or other colors, according to Microsoft’s description. The manufacturer has identified certain Win32 APIs for rendering colors as the cause, but remains vague in the limitation: Under “certain circumstances”, instead of correct values, these APIs would return “unexpected information or errors”, which then resulted in the wrong colors.
Not all color management programs are affected by the problem. The company assumes that Microsoft’s Color Control Panel, for example, should function properly.
Windows 11 was released in October and is not yet too widespread, but has already attracted some surprising problems. Recently, for example, there were problems with a low write speed with mass storage devices (HDDs, SSDs).
