Windows 11 recently received the monthly update from Microsoft. With the March patch, however, some annoying bugs have also moved into the young system. One of them concerns the onboard security app, which warns of a security vulnerability after the update – but this is an error message.

As WindowsLatest reports, the bug affects Microsoft Defender. Users will see the message Local security authority protection is disabled displayed and that the device might be vulnerable to attacks. The messages are also displayed when the security function is activated.

Microsoft is aware of this bug and is already working on a solution to the problem. According to the current state of knowledge, there is no danger for you, it is simply a false-positive error message – in other words, an error detection.

Microsoft Defender error message can be fixed

If you don’t want to wait for the Redmond company, you can fix the problem manually. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Opens the Windows Registry Editor
  • Go to the entry “ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlLsa”
  • Edit the RunAsPPL and RunAsPPLBoot DWORD entries here
  • Sets the included values ​​to 2
  • If these values ​​are not available, you can create them by right-clicking on LSA
  • Close the window and restart the PC

After that, the error message should no longer appear. However, there are reports on the net that state that this path did not help either. It is not yet known when Microsoft will fix the bug with a patch.
