Microsoft continues its efforts to dissuade users from installing Windows 11
on an incompatible PC. The Redmond company is currently testing a feature similar to that present on the pirated versions of Windows 10
.
In an upcoming update, Microsoft may impose a watermark on PCs that aren’t compatible with Windows 11.
A watermark on PCs not compatible with Windows 11
Microsoft will further tighten the screw for users who run Windows 11 on an incompatible PC. If the latest operating system requires strict minimum configurations, the Redmond firm had nevertheless left the possibility for less powerful computers to override these criteria via a simple modification of the Registry. However, Microsoft will intensify its efforts to dissuade users from resorting to this method.
As we know, the tech giant is already planning to set up an alert system for non-compatible PCs who have nevertheless installed Windows 11, but it would not stop there. Microsoft will also crack down by including a watermark on unsupported versions of the OS. One water mark housed at the bottom right of the screen, which will display the installed version and remind that the minimum system requirements have not been reached. Obviously, it will be impossible to remove or hide it. The American company already uses this technique for pirated versions of Windows 10, but it is currently only in the testing phase on Windows 11 build 22557.
