The system requirements of Windows 11 have caused a lot of trouble since the release of the operating system in autumn 2021. So far, most of the hurdles in the Windows 11 upgrade have been bypassed in order to install the new system on older computers as well. But there is a dead end: If blockades were bypassed during installation, Microsoft could eventually refuse updates, as has already happened with test versions. For users who switched from Windows 10 more than ten days ago, there is no turning back (the trial period can be extended to 60 days with a trick). If you want to keep your operating system up to date, the only options left are a new installation of Windows 10 or the purchase of a new PC. Unfortunately, this scenario is becoming more and more likely, partly because, according to media reports, a current update for Windows 11 adds an annoying warning directly to the desktop. So far, this warning was only available in Windows 11 test versions on older PCs.
Update with unloved watermark
The current update KB5011563 does not contain any new functions. One notable change is that Windows now simultaneously displays up to three high-priority notifications and one normal-priority notification. In addition, you can now find the settings for widgets by searching for the term “widgets” in the start menu. Otherwise, with update 23 you will receive bug fixes and a technical improvement in the networking of cloud services.
Microsoft does not mention the controversial desktop watermark. According to Windows Latest, it appears after installing the update if TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot are disabled or not available. In tests by COMPUTER BILD, however, it has not yet appeared with an incompatible processor and the TPM is switched off. There are also reports that the watermark was included in the test phase of the update, but is now not being distributed to regular Windows users.
If you want to be on the safe side and prefer not to install the update for the time being, you don’t have to do anything: KB5011563 does not contain any security updates and is therefore optional. If you want to install it, you have to do it in the Windows settings under windows update by clicking Download and install nudge. If it is not displayed, click on beforehand Looking for updates.
