Announced at the launch of Windows 11
, Android apps were a long-awaited feature. The Redmond giant has finally delivered on its promise (in the US at least), but not everyone will be able to enjoy it.

Microsoft has indeed unveiled the minimum configurations to run Android apps on Windows 11 and as much to say that it will take a good PC.

The minimum configurations revealed

After long months of waiting, Microsoft kept its promise. Since the last update of the operating system, it is finally possible to run Android applications natively on PC. To do this, users must install the Amazon Appstore (currently in preview) to then be able to browse its library of more than 1,000 games and applications and install the titles they wish to try. Applications then launch in windowed mode like any other program.

Except that not all configurations are compatible with this new feature. Here too, Microsoft is keeping an eye on the grain and even if a PC is capable of supporting Windows 11, it may not be powerful enough to support Android applications, which promise to be particularly greedy. The Redmond firm has indeed published the following minimum recommended configurations:

  • Processor: 8th Generation Intel Core i3 / AMD Ryzen 3000 / Qualcomm Snapdragon 8c

  • RAM: 8 GB / 16 GB recommended

  • Storage Type: SSD

  • Architecture: x64 or ARM64

Android apps will be greedy

To run Android applications, you will therefore need hardware other than entry-level. Microsoft indeed requires at least 8 GB of RAM to take advantage of them, against 4 GB for Windows 11. And this is only the minimum, then the recommended RAM increases to 16 GB to run them with more power. ease. On the processor side, the most observant will have noticed the absence of second-generation AMD Ryzen, with the exception of Ryzen 2000 APUs which are more recent and theoretically more powerful.

Installing an SSD is also required, although Microsoft does not specify what type. We imagine that a SATA III or an NVMe will do the trick. The Redmond firm also indicates that it will imperatively require an Amazon account and that virtualization must be activated to allow support for Windows Subsystem on Android (WSA). Windows 11

  • Graphical redesign of the successful interface
  • Improved Snap
  • Effective anchor groups

To be completely honest, Windows 11 seems to us to be a good evolution of Windows 10. Beyond the very marketing aspect linked to the surprise effect (Windows 10 was presented as the last of the last, remember) and to the mainly graphical redesign of the interface, the update brings a bit of clarity and modernity that are welcome after six years spent with an OS designed to reconcile Microsoft and its audience. We also like the discreet details that make it more functional, such as the improved snap and anchor groups, or even the refined management of virtual desktops. Finally, we are really convinced by the redesign of the Microsoft Store. By agreeing to return to the exclusivity reserved for UWPs, Microsoft is effectively hitting where it is not expected and finally compels itself to catch up on Apple and Google.
