But what about the Start menu and taskbar in Windows? Many users seem to be victims of a disturbing bug. Microsoft has launched an investigation.

Several problems concerning the Windows operating system concern Microsoft. In some cases, the Start menu and taskbar may become unresponsive.

Corrupt registry permissions

The bug can also cause problems connecting to Outlook and Teams, prevent opening recent applications or even hinder the proper functioning of the Windows search function. Access to Azure Active Directory to enable Office 365 applications may also be blocked in some cases, reports Bleeping Computer.

The Barco company, which develops the ClickShare video conferencing software, shared a repair solution, which they obtained directly from Microsoft support. She specifies that her own application has nothing to do with the bug, inherent in Windows, but of which she is an indirect victim.

“In most cases, it was possible to fix the problem using the Microsoft FixUserShellFolderPermissions recovery tool”, explains the publisher. The script in question can be downloaded from the official Barco website, a link is provided at the bottom of the page.

A script as a temporary solution

If running the script does not resolve the issue, users should manually disable the calendar integration feature from app settings, Barco said.

Microsoft has yet to publicly acknowledge the existence of this particularly troublesome bug, but has launched an internal investigation, reports the ClickShare developer. He advises people who are victims of the bug to contact Microsoft directly to obtain a potential personalized solution.

Reporting the concern to the American group could also encourage it to implement more resources to quickly develop a fix. If you are filing a ticket with Microsoft, state “Start menu or taskbar become unresponsive”Where “unresponsive start menu or task bar” in English. The number that refers to this bug at Microsoft is 41322218.
