Laptop users will finally be able to take advantage of this feature previously reserved for desktop users. This allows the screen to automatically adapt its brightness according to the content displayed. On a desktop, this reduces energy consumption, while on a laptop, this should help save a little battery life.
Microsoft has just rolled out Windows 11 build 25346 to the Canary channel and, with it, a handy feature for laptop users. This is called CABC, for Content Adaptive Brightness Control and, as its name suggests, has the role of automatically adjusting the brightness of the screen. For this, it will therefore analyze what is displayed on the screen and react accordingly.
Let’s say you’re watching a video on your PC: the brightness will increase on the darker images and decrease on the brighter ones, without you having to touch anything. Truth be told, the change should even be almost imperceptible, so as not to ruin your viewing experience. Until now, this feature was only available for desktop PCs.

If this feature reminds you of something, it’s normal: it is very similar to DDR, or dynamic refresh rate, which also reduces the energy consumption of your PC by adjusting the refresh rate to the situation. Also, the CABC can be found in Windows Settings in System > Screenin the section Brightness and color.

For now, however, it seems that this option is only functional when the laptop is plugged into the mains. As you will have understood, it is not a question here of saving battery, but rather energy. Nevertheless the arrival of this one on portable PC is certainly not a coincidence, and one imagines that Microsoft intends to use it well to preserve the autonomy of its users.
Note that build 25346 is also coming after some small interface changes, especially for notification popups regarding security alerts. No great revolution there, however.
