You have surely wondered how the Netflix, Spotify or even this solitaire game appeared on your PC, newly acquired or assembled by you… These software from the Microsoft Store are in fact installed by default by Microsoft during configuration of your PC depending on its geographical location. Thus, a PC configured in Asia and another in Europe will not have the same pre-installed software.
By changing the localization, Windows is lost
Based on this observation, clever little guys have wondered if by indicating a wacky or unofficially recognized location, it was not possible to escape the installation of this unwanted content. And indeed, during a “clean” installation of Windows 11, that is to say by downloading the ISO (image of the installation DVD) directly from the Microsoft servers, then installing it with a key USB, it is possible to indicate a location which is not recognized by Microsoft’s servers and which therefore does not install the software attached to your real location.

To do this, during the first language selection screen, you must indicate in the Time and currency format field: “English (Europe)”. The Windows installation process will then show an error that you just have to ignore; the rest of the installation will then continue.

Arrived on the Windows 11 desktop, you will be able to take advantage of a Start menu devoid of any preinstalled application, whether it is SVOD services, messaging or even the Office suite.
To complete the installation, simply put the location back to France in the settings, if Windows did not do it automatically, and install the software you really need from the Microsoft Store.
