Microsoft confirms that Windows is banking on artificial intelligence.
A few days ago, Qualcomm unveiled its Snapdragon X Elite chip for Windows ARM PCs. During the presentation, we saw a speech from two important Microsoft executives: CEO Satya Nadella and Vice President of Windows Pavan Davuluri made an appearance on stage.
AI will revolutionize OS, UI and user experiences
If they did not explicitly mention Windows 12, the two strong men of the Redmond firm commented on how the Snapdragon X Elite and its powerful NPU will be able to take advantage of future versions of Windows, knowing that the latest reports claim that Windows 12 will be the OS for artificial intelligence.
“AI will fundamentally change what an operating system is, what a user interface looks like, how application interaction takes place”says Satya Nadella, for whom generative AI “has the potential to be as big as the mobile revolution, the cloud revolution, the web and the PC”.
The boss of Microsoft then mentioned a new reasoning engine, which will make it possible to modify “virtually all categories of software”. For any task to be carried out on your computer, it will therefore be possible to rely on an AI assistant, which will help the user with boring tasks or to assist them in their creative processes.
Breaking the boundaries between local and cloud
Satya Nadella highlighted hybrid AI models, which can both rely on the power available locally thanks to NPUs to carry out their calculations, but also on the cloud for the heaviest tasks. Windows Copilot, for example, already relies on this hybrid architecture, between local and cloud computing.
“The flagship experience for us will be Copilot”continues Satya Nadella. “When Windows was first created, we had the Start button. Copilot is like the Start button. When I express my intention to it, it either directs me to an application, or it brings the application’s functions into Copilot ». It is clear that this functionality will “completely change user habits”.
Pavan Davuluri announced how Copilot would evolve to become indispensable. “You will be able to personalize every interaction. AI will be able to take into account multiple applications, services and devices, functioning as an assistant that can connect and maintain context across workflows..
