Microsoft said it is working on a bug that affects Windows Defender. The Windows 10 and 11 antivirus tends to display certain files from Chrome, Edge or even Discord as dangerous (when this is not the case). A first fix has been posted.
Microsoft is working on an annoying Windows Defender bug. Indeed, the latter tends to consider files from Chrome, Edge or Discord as potentially dangerous, when they are not. One false positive indicated under the term Behavior:Win32/Hive.ZY.
Windows Defender is the native antivirus of Windows 11 and Windows 10. Long mocked, Microsoft has improved it over time by making it effective and safe software. This does not prevent a few hiccups like the one today.

Concretely, this error means that when a user downloads a Chromium-based application or an application on Discord, the antivirus considers it dangerous and isolates it. A very painful situation that prevents the installation and updating of certain software.

To counter this error, you have to trick. A little tour in the task manager is therefore necessary, then a total deactivation of Windows Defender in the background. Once the file is downloaded and installed, Windows Defender can be re-enabled. Note that not everyone may have this error. Ourselves, at the editorial office, we do not undergo it. There is nothing to do for the moment, since the patch must come from Microsoft. The Redmond firm has indicated that it is working on the subject and some users can already download a new version of the software.
It could not be easier. Just go in Windows settings and in the submenu Privacy and Securitythen in Windows Security. Once done, click on Protection against viruses and threats. A new window then appears. If the update is available, it will be possible to download it. Theoretically, if you download Windows Defender build 1.373.1537.0, this false positive issue should go away. Otherwise, you will have to be patient and wait for Microsoft developers to settle the matter.
