This is the end for Cortana, whose Windows application will soon no longer be supported by Microsoft.

Do not panic however, Microsoft has other projects under the elbow on the AI side.

End of support for Cortana on Windows

A little less than ten years ago, Microsoft formalized Cortana, its intelligent personal assistant (rival of Siri), integrated at the time on Windows Phone and Windows 8.1, without forgetting an Android and iOS version in the form of a dedicated app. Today, Microsoft is announcing the end of support for Cortana within Windows.

Starting in late 2023, we will no longer support Cortana in Windows as an app “Explains Microsoft on its Support page.
Obviously, Microsoft explains to its users the new options available, and among them, a certain “new Bing”.

Generative AI too strong for Cortana

Indeed, a few weeks ago the search engine signed Microsoft yielded to the call of AI and ChatGPT. But that’s not all, since Microsoft will continue its quest for artificial intelligence through Copilot, which will soon arrive on PCs equipped with Windows 11.

Note that if Cortana is going to be erased from Windows, the personal assistant will remain available in Outlook and Teams (in their English version).

If there was a time when Cortana was integrated into Windows 10, the latter has been relegated (from 2019) to the rank of application. Ditto on the mobile side, since Cortana has no longer been offered on iOS and Android since 2021, not to mention its withdrawal from certain connected products.

Recently, it was Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella who did not hesitate to tackle voice assistants, including… Cortana. Despite real ambitions when it was launched in 2014, Cortana was quickly dismissed by Microsoft, and this AI, however revolutionary in its time, is today a technological dinosaur compared to… current AI.
