After making an impression thanks to his interpretation of the impertinent robber Palermo in the hit series La Casa de Papel, the Argentine actor Rodrigo de la Serna returns to the spotlight at the end of the year to appear in the thriller The Ransom, the Price of Truth, to watch on Paramount+.

Acclaimed during its presentation at the Venice Film Festival in early September, this intense film immerses spectators in Argentina in the 1980s, when the country was undergoing a profound political transition after several years of military dictatorship coming to an end. It is in this climate of great upheaval that Julio Levy, accompanied by his family, returns from exile and takes up a position in the large family business.

But the excitement of returning is quickly destroyed by the kidnapping of his older brother Miguel, like many other Argentines at the time. Tasked with organizing the rescue and carrying the weight of his family on his shoulders, Julio discovers the forces still operating behind Argentina’s newly regained democracy. He then begins an unbalanced fight against the system in place…

A SHIFTING FAMILY DRAMA

Directed by Daniela Goggi (María Marta: El crimen del country), this drama is notably inspired by the memoirs of Argentine journalist Martín Sivak, published under the title El Salto de Papain which he looks back on the life of his father and the ordeal experienced by his family.

With gravity, the film traces the cruel and painful wait of Julio and his loved ones in the greatest uncertainty, the lack of answers to their questions, and above all the dismay of no longer knowing who to turn to and who to believe during this terrible ordeal…
