Winona Ryder: She would testify for Johnny Depp in court

Johnny Depp (56, "Pirates of the Caribbean") is starting a lawsuit against the parent company of the British tabloid "The Sun" and his ex-wife Amber Heard (33, "Aquaman") from March 23. He accuses her of defaming her after accusing him of "abuse" in a "Sun" article. Another ex-partner, Winona Ryder (48, "Stranger Things"), is now jumping to his side. She considered it "unimaginable" that Johnny Depp had become violent and would be ready to testify.

"Unimaginable Allegations"

Ryder says in the statement that the industry portal "Blast" has that the idea that Depp is an "incredibly violent person" is "far removed from the Johnny I know and loved." She herself had never experienced such behavior: "He was never violent or abusive towards me or anyone else. (…) I always felt very safe with him." Although she does not want to "call a liar", she cannot imagine the allegations and is ready to testify.

Ryder and Depp have been engaged for three years since 1990. They never discussed in public why the two separated at the time, on the contrary: they continued to speak in the highest tones of each other. Depp is suing The Sun's parent company, News Group Newspapers, and newspaper editor-in-chief Dan Wootton, 36, for an article in 2018 that allegedly abused Heard. The ten-day trial is slated to begin on March 23.
