Leipzig even beats Real at Szoboszlai

Several top clubs are vying for Dominik Szoboszlai's services, including Real Madrid and FC Bayern. However, the Hungarian national player from RB Salzburg opts for another Bundesliga club – and is thus going down a path that 17 others have already taken.

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has signed Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian international comes from sister club Red Bull Salzburg and is moving to Saxony on January 1st. According to media reports, the transfer fee is 20 million euros. The midfielder signed a contract until 2025 and is already the 18th professional to move directly from Salzburg to Leipzig.

Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Arsenal were interested in the 20-year-old. "We are happy that we were able to sign Dominik Szoboszlai and that he will join us in January. We had very good discussions with Dominik and his advisor right from the start and of course we are proud that he decided on RB Leipzig – because him there were also several offers from top European clubs, "said RB sports director Markus Krösche and emphasized that the newcomer was eligible to play against Borussia Dortmund on January 9th.

Szoboszlai was discovered by today's Leipzig scouting boss Christopher Vivell and brought into the Salzburg youth team in 2017. The twelve-time national player moved to Salzburg's Bundesliga team in winter 2018 via the Liefering farm team. In the current season he scored four goals in eleven league games and prepared seven goals. Szoboszlai scored twice in six group games in the Champions League, but was relegated to the Europa League with Salzburg.
