Winter sales 2024 – The WD Black P50 Game Drive SSD 1 TB “4 stars” external SSD at €134.99 (-50%)

With its Black P50 series, WD promises external SSDs capable of reaching 2 GB/s reading. Very high speed which is accompanied by an industrial look which changes the codes a little in the field.

The WD Black P50 blows hot and cold. In absolute terms, this is the first external SSD to offer such a high throughput (1.7 GB/s reading), and this, without a drop in speed during transfer; Thermal management is thus devilishly effective, but in return increases the weight of the disk. And above all, we remain well below the promise of 2 GB/s.

Strong points

  • High flow rates in absolute terms.
  • Thermal management.

Weak points

  • The promised 2 GB/s has not been achieved.
  • No cable storage system.
  • Heavy.

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude the prices of stores whose the VAT policy is not clear (so-called “gray” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).

Alternatively

Corsair’s EX100U 1TB is identical in every way to the 2TB model we tested. This is undoubtedly one of the best portable SSDs around. It not only offers a very compact design that makes it easy to transport, but also excellent writing and reading speeds. In short, everything you expect from a portable SSD. It just lacks a USB-A adapter for more versatility.
