Going to the cinema with the whole family is an expensive pleasure. Many parents therefore rely primarily on home cinema to entertain their children with new films from Disney, DreamWorks and Co. Large, high-definition televisions and early streaming releases also make you think twice about going to the cinema.
Especially in recent years, it has hardly been worth seeing new Disney films in the cinema at the end of the year. Both “Encanto” and “Strange World” were released on Disney+ just one month after their theatrical release, after both films disappointed at the box office. But what about “Wish”?
Mix of cartoon and computer animation
Disney has now understood that Disney+ releases too early lead to poor box office returns. That’s why the studio has shown perseverance since “Elemental” and is patiently waiting until the number of viewers declines. New films can then be purchased digitally before they finally appear on Disney+.
Since almost three months passed between the theatrical release and the Disney+ release for “Elemental,” a similar timeline can be expected for “Wish.” “Wish” should therefore be shown on Disney+ around mid-February 2024.
If you want to stream “Wish” earlier, you will have the opportunity to do so from January 23, 2024. The film will then be available to rent and purchase on Amazon, iTunes/Apple TV and other POV services. A week earlier, another Disney highlight, “The Marvels,” landed in the stream, and it is also expected to launch on Disney+ in February 2024.
