Scholz dissatisfied with the traffic light style

At half time, the traffic light coalition is already in retreat for the fifth time. This time the mood is particularly bad. So bad that the chancellor is publicly urging his ministers to treat each other better. In terms of content, Scholz is satisfied with the current account.
After the recent disputes in the traffic light coalition, Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on the members of the government to work together. He wished for “good cooperation” for the government as a whole, said the SPD politician at the start of the cabinet meeting in Meseberg in the afternoon. In his view, the government has “a very successful track record”. And it would “of course be good if everyone contributed with their communication strategies,” emphasized the Chancellor.
In the “Ampel” there had been a public conflict about basic child security for months. In the middle of August, the Green Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus blocked the Growth Opportunities Act of the FDP leader and Finance Minister Christian Lindner in the cabinet, which provides for billions in tax cuts for companies.
The opponents were only able to agree on another top meeting with Scholz on Monday night. The basic child security planned from 2025 has now been agreed, but with significantly less money than Paus requested. Lindner’s growth law is now to be decided on Wednesday at the cabinet meeting in Meseberg.
Compromise on basic child security “impressive”
Basic child security is “a step forward that we have struggled for a long time,” said Scholz about the conflict. But in the end there was a very impressive and good result. He is sure that this is “a good reform” that will bring Germany forward. Halfway through the legislative period, Scholz spoke of an “important exam”. He believes that Meseberg can help ensure that there is good cooperation in the coalition.
Scholz has repeatedly called for negotiations to only be discussed publicly once the results are available. The retreat at Meseberg Castle, around 50 kilometers north of Berlin, is the fifth in the almost two-year government of the SPD, Greens and FDP cabinet. The Chancellor and his 16 ministers want to deal primarily with the precarious economic situation today, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Scholz again called for more speed in approval procedures such as the construction of liquid gas terminals. “And we want the pace to continue to have an impact on all areas where government action and approvals are concerned.”
