Patrick Stéphanini, former secretary general of the Ministry of Immigration, was the guest of La Grande interview Europe 1-CNews. At the microphone of Romain Desarbres, the former prefect returned to the wishes of the President of the Republic on the occasion of the transition to the new year, and judges that the latter “did not want to talk about the substance”.

“2024 will be a French vintage”. In front of millions of French people, Emmanuel Macron spoke to conclude the year 2023 and set his course for the new year. In his speech lasting only 13 minutes, the President of the Republic wished for the unity of the country, as France prepares to host the Olympic Games in a few months.

A head of state who is too optimistic?

Invited this Monday to the microphone of Europe 1-CNews, Patrick Stéphanini does not hide his disappointment after having attended the wishes of the Head of State. “I said to myself that he obviously didn’t want to talk about substance because he has to reserve substantive announcements for the rest of January. And so, he took refuge in words, in verbs” ready-made, he judges.

“I found him very optimistic on a certain number of subjects. I found him very optimistic on employment while Germany, our main economic partner, is in recession, while the construction sector is experiencing a crisis unprecedented with a 25% drop in building permits last year. And then, I found him very optimistic about education, saying that we had invested a lot. So much the better, but the French remember that we ended 2023 with catastrophic results in terms of the Pisa ranking,” he concludes.
