With a trick – hurray! The Suzuki Jimny is back!

The Suzuki Jimny is probably the cutest little off-road vehicle on the market and a real climber at the same time. Whereby: To be more precise, that’s not true, because Suzuki has stopped selling the little one in Europe because it would have become a premium deal because of the new emissions regulations. But with a clever trick you can offer it again from July!

The trick is: The Jimny is now becoming a truck. This has the advantage that Suzuki does not have to pay for every gram of CO2 that it emits in excess of 95 grams per kilometer, because higher limits apply to trucks.

Of course, the car is not 1: 1 the way we know and imagined it, but that doesn’t have to be a disadvantage. What has been omitted are the rear seats, which are probably not used too often anyway. Instead, the mini off-road vehicle now has a level loading area and a grille that separates the load space from the seats and thus protects the driver and front passenger from cargo flying around.

Suzuki specifies 863 liters as the maximum load volume, 33 liters more than a car. Up to 150 kg of cargo can be loaded into it.

The drive remains the same: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 102 hp and a maximum torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. developed. That’s enough for a top speed of 145 km / h. Suzuki does not give a sprint value.

Of course, the off-road capabilities do not change either, thanks to a ladder frame, rigid axles with stable three-link wheel suspension and switchable all-wheel drive with reduction. The ground clearance is 21 centimeters and slope and ramp angles are also suitable for off-road use: the slope angle is 37 degrees at the front, 49 degrees at the rear, and the ramp angle is 28 degrees. It is shifted by a five-speed gearbox, the automatic is no longer offered.

The comfort equipment includes amenities such as air conditioning with pollen filter, heated seats, CD radio with Bluetooth hands-free system and steering wheel control buttons, central locking with radio remote control, cruise control, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and all-round tinted windows. The eCall system is new, which in the event of an accident automatically alerts the rescue service and transmits the exact location of the vehicle.

The Suzuki Jimny as a small truck is available from 22,990 euros. In that case it has rear side windows as it did before. Alternatively, for a surcharge of € 390, metal sheets are used instead of the panes. As a fiscal truck, it is therefore entitled to input tax deduction. The trays have more of an effect on the account than on the scales: with discs, the trolley weighs 1092 kg according to DIN, with trays it weighs 1113 kg.

The market launch is in July, but Suzuki is already announcing long delivery times.
