The EcoFlow brand offers portable power stations that can be recharged via a power outlet, or thanks to solar panels. They make it possible to power devices in the absence of access to the electrical network, but can also take over from the usual power sources in the event of a power cut, as we could experience this winter.
The latest product just unveiled is primarily intended to charge these stations, but it can also provide a direct power source to power appliances around the home. The EcoFlow Smart Generator Dual Fuel incorporates a 4L fuel tank, but can run on two fuels unlike the previous generation Smart Generator. A connector is thus provided on the side of the generator to connect a propane bottle. The amount of energy that it is then capable of delivering obviously varies according to the format of the bottle.
EcoFlow promises up to 20 kWh for a 9 l bottle. According to the manufacturer’s calculations, this is the equivalent of a family’s emergency electricity consumption for five days. The estimate is based on the use of four lights, a fan, a router, smartphones and a refrigerator. On the other hand, a full tank of gas “only” produces 5.4 kWh.
Management via app and smart functions
In addition to its basic function, the device is also connected. It can be activated manually or via the EcoFlow app, which is also used to configure the device to start automatically in the event of an emergency. On the other hand, the generator has an LCD screen and alerts the user if the fuel level is too low or if it detects too high a level of carbon monoxide in the air.
If this type of device usually interests more the owners of motorhomes and remote dwellings, the prospect of being deprived of power this winter could encourage many other people to equip themselves. The Smart Generator had also remained out of stock for a few days at certain retailers shortly after its release, despite a fairly high launch price: 1599 €.
