The workhorse of many players in connected health, sleep monitoring generally involves devices to be worn during the night (activity bracelet, watches or even connected rings) or to be installed under the mattress (Withings Sleep Analyzer.. .). With its Halo Rise, Amazon offers a contactless sleep tracking solution, thanks to a combination of sensors and machine learning (machine learning). A solution that is reminiscent of that introduced by Google in 2021 in its 2nd generation Nest Hub, which is based on a Soli sensor.
No screen or even voice assistant integrated into the Halo Rise, however, Amazon has opted for a Dawn simulator alarm clock design. Rather elegant, Halo Rise takes the form of a small whitish puck mounted on a metal base and merely displays the time. It can nevertheless be connected and controlled with a smartphone or an Amazon Echo voice assistant, for example.
Remote sleep monitoring
Sleep monitoring is based on an automatic analysis of breathing and movements, as soon as the user goes to bed. Amazon specifies that its algorithm was trained from nights of sleep recorded by polysomnography, a method deemed reliable for analyzing sleep. Amazon says its device is able to detect deep, light, REM, and waking sleep. In the absence of measurement of the heart rate and even less of an electroencephalogram, it will probably not be necessary to expect a very precise detection of the phases of sleep, the task being already difficult for most connected watches which nevertheless take advantage of sensors a priori more suitable for such monitoring.
In order to help us sleep better, Halo Rise also embeds temperature, light and humidity sensors to tell us what actions to take to optimize our environment (cool the room, lower or increase the humidity, etc.).
Bright alarm clock synchronized with sleep
Acting as a dawn simulator, the Halo Rise also provides a luminous wake-up call with gradual variation in color temperature and light intensity. To do this, it incorporates LEDs arranged in a semi-circle allowing it to emit up to 300 lux. A loudspeaker is also integrated if you want an audible alarm clock. Halo Rise adapts to our sleep to wake us up in an appropriate phase (light sleep, in general).
Amazon Halo services highlighted
Halo Rise is part of Amazon’s Halo ecosystem, built around a subscription providing access to nutritional advice, sports training (fitness, etc.), meditation exercises and wellness services. -be.
The Halo Rise will release later this year for $139.99, with a 6-month subscription to the Halo service included. We don’t know yet if it will be released in France later.
