Tore Aleksandersen succumbs to serious cancer

The German volleyball champion Allianz MTV Stuttgart mourns the loss of its former successful coach Tore Aleksandersen. The 55-year-old took over the coaching position in December 2020 and led his players to the first double in the club’s history in the 2021/22 season.

The former Stuttgart volleyball coach Tore Aleksandersen is dead. As former club Allianz MTV Stuttgart announced, citing the family, the Norwegian succumbed to prostate cancer at the age of 55. “With Tore, a person has left us forever who was much more to all of us than the successful coach of Allianz MTV Stuttgart,” said sports director Kim Oszvald-Renkema. “He gave each and every one of us an incredible amount of energy, inspiration and joy despite and during his illness.”

Aleksandersen died in his native Norway. “We are glad that he was still able to be there with his family,” said MTV managing director Aurel Irion. The 55-year-old “achieved great things” for the club and German volleyball and “with his inimitable style and his unwavering belief in his team, he ensured Allianz MTV Stuttgart’s most successful period. The entire sport of volleyball is losing an outstanding coach in Tore Aleksandersen and people. Our sadness could not be greater,” said Oszvald-Renkema.

The club mourns deeply with all its relatives and friends. Alekandersen came to Allianz MTV in December 2020, and under him the Stuttgart women won the German championship twice, most recently last May. The team also won the cup competition in 2022. Last summer, however, Aleksandersen had to end his coaching career because of cancer. His successor in Stuttgart was Konstantin Bitter.
