There is a newcomer to the world of external batteries. Samsung-owned Harman has just released new smartphone accessories under its new InfinityLab brand.
Best known for its headphones and portable speakers, Harman has just entered the lucrative external battery market. The company (owned by Samsung since 2016) has launched a new brand called InfinityLab which specializes in the trade of smartphone accessories.
Highlighted products include the InstantGo 5000 Wireless and the InstantGo 10,000 Wireless which, as you’ve probably guessed by now, are 5000 and 10,000 mAh power banks capable of charging a phone or a wired or wireless tablet. The gadgets are nothing revolutionary compared to what we find in the competition, except that they sport a design that is perhaps a little more colorful than usual.
On the technical sheet side, we find the classic: a USB-A port capable of delivering up to 15 W of power and a USB-C port capable of going up to 30 W (on the 10,000 model, the 5000 being limited to 18 W). The wireless charge points to 10 W and obviously uses the Qi standard. Both batteries are Power Delivery 3.0 compatible to harmoniously adapt the power delivered to each device according to its needs. Positive point, the battery can charge in “passthrough”, that is to say that it is possible to power a phone on the battery while the battery itself is charging.
Both models are also available with an integrated USB-C or Lightning cable, but in this case you have to make a line on wireless charging.
From the standard or GaN charger
In addition to external batteries, InfinityLab offers more classic wall chargers, a 20 W in USB-C or a 30 W with two USB ports (A and C). The brand also markets gallium nitride (GaN) chargers which offer much higher output powers in much more compact envelopes. The 65 W charger with 2 USBs is thus barely larger than the “classic” 30 W. The prices of these accessories fluctuate between 15 and 80 €. This last price corresponds to the addition for the 100 W GaN charger with four USB ports.
Finally, there are also USB-C or Lightning cables in the InfinityLab catalog, wireless chargers and even a portable speaker. Surely a nod to its sister brand Harman/Kardon.
