A device for people with visual impairments
On March 13, 2023, Sony presented a not completely new camera, but equipped with a viewfinder of a new kind. It is in fact the compact DSC-HX99, which will soon be five years old, but embellished with a somewhat unusual sighting system. Indeed, a retinal projection kit has been grafted to the small box.
Called Retissa Neoviewer, this system designed by the company QD Laser offers a laser sight capable of displaying an image with a definition approaching HD (720p). In order to compensate for vision problems such as astigmatism, hypermetropia or even pronounced myopia, the Retissa Neoviewer sends the image directly to the retina, thus bypassing the focusing carried out by the eye.
Price and availability
The DSC-HX99 + Retissa Neoviewer QD kit will be released (on Sony’s website) from summer 2023, initially only in the United States and in limited quantities. It will be offered for $600, which is a hefty hundred dollars more than the compact alone.
