With “My first cabaret”, the Latin paradise at the height of a kid

In the basement of the Paradis Latin, in the lair of the seamstresses, it’s teeming. The shelves are overflowing with fabrics and the racks bend under the weight of the 380 costumes created for the occasion. Shimmering pieces of fabric are arranged here and there on a mannequin, the beginnings of a Josephine Baker costume. The steady hum of a sewing machine accompanies the small team of women who sew, unsew and readjust. The outfits of the 25 actors must be ready for December 14 and the grand premiere of My first cabaret. A show aimed at young audiences (from 5 years old), a real UFO in the world of music hall.

The establishment, located in Paris, in the 5e district, hopes to attract 50,000 to 80,000 people over the next 100 performances in order to make the investment, which amounts to around 5 million euros, profitable. “We are betting on the future by giving a taste for cabaret from an early age, so that this public will come back later if they like it and pass on their passion for cabaret themselves to their children “, emphasizes Walter Butler, the Franco-Brazilian businessman who owns Paradis Latin.

“It’s a world first, the offer for a family audience was non-existent! » Kamel Ouali, choreographer and director

At the origin of this show, there is the“wacky idea” of the former emblematic dance teacher of the “Star Academy”, the choreographer and director Kamel Ouali. After mounting his own musicals, The sun King but also Cleopatra, he joined Paradis Latin in 2018 and created the evening show The Bird of Paradise. Big scarf around his neck, an attentive eye focused on rehearsals, he gets carried away about his latest discovery: “It’s a world first, the offer for a family audience was non-existent! I took codes that kids like, like fairies and heroes, but also popular music on social networks. I go in their direction to make them discover the cabaret by small touches. »

The twenty paintings of the show retrace the life of Roxy, cantankerous owner of the cabaret, and Paradis, gentle leader of the revue with whom Léo, a young somnambulist, will fall in love. The performance mixes dance, singing, circus, sketches, magic and special effects. All for an average ticket of 60 euros per person, with a snack. The actors who follow are all around 20 years old and for the most part are taking their first steps on stage.

A difference is obvious
