With on-board video – Tesla Model S sets record on the Nordschleife!

What a respectable success! The Tesla Model S Plaid is now the fastest series electric vehicle on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife. The Swede Andreas Simonsen needed 7: 35,579 minutes for the 20.8 kilometer lap. See the on-board video of the record run here!

So far, the Porsche Taycan Turbo has been considered the fastest series production vehicle in the Green Hell. However, his time of 7:42 on the shorter 20.6-kilometer route was not achieved in the presence of a notary.

In addition, the counterattack will probably not be long in coming: after all, the turbo is only the second most powerful version of the Taycan – the Taycan Turbo S has 761 hp and 1050 Nm, while the turbo only achieves 680 hp and 850 Nm. However, the top values of the Turbo S apply when using Launch Control – the record laps on the Nordschleife are not driven with a standing start. So you can be curious.

Tesla boss Elon Musk announced the record on Twitter, but gave two times: In addition to the time reported by the Nürburgring operator, the tweet also says 7:30: 909. This raises questions, as does the news from Auto Motor & Sport magazine that no Tesla was on production tires. Tesla tested for several days on the Nordschleife, with several vehicles, some with a cleared interior and roll cage. There is also talk of enlarged brakes and flared fenders.

According to Musk’s tweet, however, the record-breaking vehicle was in production condition and sent straight from the factory onto the track.

The three engines of the Tesla Model S Plaid have a total of 1020 hp, and the maximum speed is 322 km / h. As can be seen in the on-board video, this speed is not nearly reached, the maximum was 279 km / h. Andreas Simonsen may have had to hold back in order not to overheat the battery. There is still potential in this, too, which is fueling the expectation of an exciting fight with Porsche. Elon has already announced results with modified vehicles and racing tires.
