With patient on board – ambulance went up in flames


On Saturday evening, an ambulance caught fire while driving in Mitterdorf an der Raab (Weiz district). Nobody got hurt.

At around 7:05 p.m., an ambulance from the Weiz control center was on the road on the B 72 in the direction of Graz. There were three paramedics and a patient who was to be transferred to the LKH Graz in the vehicle. In the Untergreith area, at road kilometer 24.4, there was suddenly a lot of smoke in the hood area. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle on the side of the road and the occupants got out and moved away from the vehicle. Shortly afterwards the ambulance was in full fire.

The notified volunteer fire brigade Weiz was deployed with 21 men and put out the fire. The rescue vehicle burned out almost completely, the exact amount of damage is not yet known. Due to the quick action of the paramedics, no people were harmed. The cause of the fire is likely to be a technical defect, more detailed investigations are still being carried out.
