Google’s generative AI features are coming to the Chromebook Plus computer range while Google is also integrating Gemini free for all new users.
After a massive integration of Google’s AI into Android smartphones, the firm has decided to make numerous changes to its Chromebook Plus range of computers.
The most important is undoubtedly the integration of Gemini and several AI features that are already found in the Google Pixel. Enough to transform your notebooks into real AI PCs at a much more advantageous price.
Generative AI comes to Chromebook Plus
This is a major update that Google reserves for its Chromebook Plus, the more powerful version of its small and affordable computers. The features introduced with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are thus arriving on the machines.
We thus find the Help me write function, to help you with Google’s AI in any input field in the system. The magical editing of Google Photos also arrives on Chromebook Plus, with the possibility of erasing, moving or resizing any element of a photo.
And to further personalize ChromeOS, the generation of wallpapers for the desktop as well as video calls by AI is also available, regardless of the calling application used (Google Meets, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.) .
All of these features currently work via the processor and graphics card in the absence of an NPU (neural processing unit), but the range could well integrate this chip dedicated to AI calculations in future iterations of Chromebook Plus.
Gemini offered for one year
The other new feature of the Chromebook Plus is the integration of Gemini, Google’s AI assistant which can be called upon at any time to carry out your research or help you write your texts.
For the occasion, 12 months of subscription to the Google One AI Premium offer (Gemini Advanced + 2 TB of storage) will be offered to all new Chromebook Plus users, i.e. more than 260 euros saved over the first year . We feel that the firm wants to evangelize the power of Gemini to Chromebook users.
Features coming to Chromebook
Google also revealed its plans for the coming year which promises to further enrich the AI capabilities, but not only, of Chromebooks via future updates.
We can notably mention the feature Help me read with Gemini which can summarize texts on the web or in PDF with a single click, but also converse with the assistant to ask for details on the subject.
Chromebooks will also make it possible to control the system using only your face for characters with disabilities, thanks to Gameface technology now integrated into ChromeOS.
All of these features will be available on Chromebook Plus as well as new models announced by Acer, HP and Asus.
