The Laptop 16 Framework takes up the connector modules that have made the reputation of the Laptop 13. There are thus six slots equipped with a choice of HDMI, USB, USB-C sockets, a card reader or SSD.

The space available at the level of the keyboard allows you to choose the layout of the elements according to your wishes. The user will therefore have the choice of centering the keyboard in the chassis or shifting it to the left in order to accommodate a numeric keypad. In the same way, it is possible to shift the touchpad or add particular elements. Framework imagines that the ecosystem develops with external manufacturers in order to replace the keyboard with DJ turntables, a graphics tablet or a second screen, like Asus. In any case, the manufacturer provides for the availability of a keyboard with RGB backlighting, the essential accessory for the player.

Slot for dedicated graphics card or other

The Laptop 16 has another much-requested option: the ability to add a graphics card for gaming. Framework has worked on the subject and offers a system that plugs into the back of the PC. According to his demonstration, the rear part of the PC containing the ventilation system can be removed and replaced by a more imposing system and equipped with a graphics card in its center.

The connection with the motherboard is made in PCIe 8x and can therefore be compatible with an SSD rack to extend storage up to 16 TB, according to the manufacturer. The latter also provides a dock for dedicated and sedentary graphics card, whose connection would be made in Thunderbolt 4 or USB 4.0.

Framework is rolling out its roadmap, but many questions are still unanswered, including the GPU and processor models that will be integrated. Will Nvidia, Intel and AMD play the game and allow Framework to integrate their GPUs on additional cards? The issue of price was also not addressed. We should have answers at the end of the year. In the meantime, the manufacturer is sounding out user interest by signing up for a newsletter.
