With the M5 and M5s, Poco maintains its focus on the entry level

Poco formalizes two new 4G smartphones, the M5 and M5s. Alternatives to its 5G terminals billed for less than €250.

Do not look there for overly sophisticated smartphones: the latest Pocos, unlike the very recent M4 5G, are satisfied with compatibility with the 4G network. Of the two, the Poco M5s is the best equipped. The smartphone is thus based on a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen – interesting point at its price level – displaying 1080 x 2400 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G95 chip flanked by 4 to 6 GB of RAM. The smartphone is, like many other devices, equipped with a 5000 mAh battery and, entry-level requires, offers a charge a little slower than the brand’s other devices, at 33 W.

On the multimedia side, the device is equipped with a complete photo block comprising a main module of 64 Mpx (wide-angle f / 1.8), an ultra wide-angle of 8 Mpx (f / 2.2), a module macro (2 Mpx, f / 2.4 optics) and a 2 Mpx depth sensor too. Note that the recorded images can be stored on a memory card, the smartphone having a microSD port. We also note the presence of a mini-jack, a fingerprint reader and IP53 certification.

The Poco M5s will be available from September 12 at a price set at €229.90 for its 4/64 GB version and €249.90 in the 4/128 GB version. A price that places it in direct competition with the Redmi Note 11 from Xiaomi, one of the most efficient smartphones in this price segment.

Poco M5: the alternative for less than 200 €

Even more affordable, the Poco M5 is equipped with a 6.58-inch screen (2048 x 1080 pixels), this time in LCD technology. Under its hood, the very recent Helio G99 from MediaTek sits alongside 4 GB of RAM. Here too, there is an expandable storage space and a mini-jack socket, but the IP53 certification no longer answers the call. The smartphone is also a little more modest in the photo department, losing the ultra wide-angle module of the M5s. It offers a main sensor of 50 megapixels (optics f / 1.8) and two modules of 2 Mpx each. Its battery also points to 5000 mAh, but its charge is limited to 18 W. The sale price of the M5 is however consistent: count a starting price of € 189.90 for the 4 / 64 GB model.
