Expected alongside the 80 series, the Magic Vs has just been formalized by Honor. The folding smartphone, the second model of its kind in the catalog of the Chinese brand, brings slight modifications to the Magic V presented at the very beginning of the year and reserved for the national market. It retains more or less the format, its interior screen displaying a vertical fold, but gains in lightness. It weighs only 261 g, compared to 288 g for its predecessor, and is now 6.1 mm thick. The smartphone also promises an equally strong hinge.
Inside, the Magic Vs is equipped with a 7.9-inch OLED screen displaying 1984 x 2272 pixels, like the Magic V. Its 6.45-inch external screen is also identical to that of its elder. It is on the side of the chipset that we must look for change, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 succeeding the 8 Gen 1, but also of the battery. The 4700 mAh of the Magic V indeed gives way to a 5000 mAh battery compatible with a 66 W charge.
Finally, it is the photo part of the smartphone that benefits from the most visible modifications. In the wake of the Honor 70, which we tested at the start of the school year, the folding terminal is equipped with a 54-megapixel main sensor flanked by wide-angle optics opening at f / 1.9, but also a sensor 50 Mpx accompanied by an ultra wide-angle (whose aperture goes from f / 2.2 to f / 2). It adds to this equipment a third module which the Honor 70 lacks, namely an 8 Mpx sensor with its telephoto lens equivalent to a x3 zoom (f / 2.4), therefore aiming for an interesting versatility in photography.
The Magic Vs debuts in China to accompany Magic OS, the brand’s new interface dressing Android 12 there. For now, the marketing of the smartphone is only announced in its native country, at a starting price of 7499 yuan , or approximately €1120 at the current exchange rate (excluding taxes). George Zhao, Honor’s CEO, announced at the last IFA that his next folding terminal will be sold in Europe, so we just have to wait for the brand to detail its launch schedule and confirm the price of the device in our lands.
