KEF Mu7
In the absence of offers discover
Water has flowed under the bridges of Maidstone since the Space One Wireless, KEF’s first active noise canceling headphones. Despite the great disappointment it left behind, the English brand has not given up and is coming back with a new model fueled by a new collaboration with Ross Lovegrove; the Welsh designer had already collaborated in the development of the excellent Muo speaker, or more recently of KEF’s latest Mu3 true wireless earphones. This association proves to us once again that we can be surprised by the aesthetics of a format as proven as the headband helmet: the Mu7 therefore sports very clean, very rounded lines, with an aluminum base, a very fine and circum-auricular “teardrop” earpieces.
The Mu7 therefore has a style of its own, but it is quite the opposite that it promises us in terms of sound reproduction. Thanks to its two in-house 40mm speakers, KEF’s headphones indeed boast of an uncompromising audio experience where fidelity and neutrality are the absolute key words. The promises committing only those who listen to them, we will wait to have the headphones on our ears to know what is really going on. We also hope that the integration of the new active noise reduction technology developed for the Mu7, called “Smart Active Noise Cancellation”, will this time be much more controlled than that present in the Space One.
The brief data sheet shared by KEF tells us that the Mu7 will offer a mini-jack wired connection and wireless via Bluetooth 5.1 with support for the aptX HD codec. Unfortunately, nothing mentions the multipoint function, which is so practical. Autonomy is announced at 40 hours per headphone charge and that’s about all we currently know about the on-board features. In terms of controls, the interaction of the Mu7 will mainly revolve around touch controls to be performed by pressing or swiping, the list presented covering all the usual uses. Some mechanical buttons are also integrated.
The KEF Mu7 will hit the market towards the end of November this year, for an announced introductory price of €399. The helmet will be available in two colors: silver gray and anthracite gray.
