Framework now offers AMD options for the Laptop Framework. The modular laptop of the Californian startup can now be equipped with the latest AMD processors Ryzen 7040U “Phoenix”.

It was planned, it is now effective… or almost. A month after AMD announced options for the Framework Laptopthe brand has added new models equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen 7040U chips to its catalog.

Intel or AMD, you can now choose

Currently out of stock in France, these new configurations start at 979 euros for a Ryzen 5 7640U (you must then add separately RAM, SSD, chargers, OS, connectors, etc.). A Ryzen 7 7840U option also exists, but either way the next wave of shipments won’t begin until the end of Q3 2023 due to lack of immediate stock.

Offered alongside 13th generation Intel processors, these AMD configurations benefit for the occasion from a redesigned cooling system. According to Framework, the latter is able to dissipate up to 28W in continuous load or 15W in eco mode.

Graphic parts (a little) more muscular, signed AMD

Compared to competing Intel Raptor Lake processors, the AMD Ryzen 7000 chips benefit in particular from slightly more muscular integrated graphics (iGPU).

The Ryzen 7 and 5 that can be installed on board the Framework Laptop are indeed equipped with Radeon 780M and 760M iGPUs, respectively. Both are based on the RDNA3 graphics architecture, which is used for next-generation AMD graphics cards, but also for the latest generation of game consoles (including ASUS ROG All).

As WCCFTech points out, however, Framework plans to go further by offering its customers support for an external GPU (eGPU) through two USB4 ports installed on its laptop. “ If you want to use an eGPU, that’s also possible! Indeed, the Framework Laptop 13 equipped with Ryzen 7040 processors has two USB4 ports, with the rear left and rear right slots for expansion cards “explains the brand.

Finally, note that we should soon be able to test the AMD version of the Laptop Framework on Clubic. Stay tuned.
