Considered one of the benchmarks for wireless noise reduction headphones, rated five stars in our test, the Sony WH-1000XM4 could very soon have a successor. If the Japanese brand has not yet officially announced anything, several recent clues and leaks suggest that a launch could take place in the coming weeks. After the discovery of a certification filing with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in the United States in February, images suggesting an evolution of the design last month, here has just appeared on Reddit a series of photos showing this which appears to be a WH-1000XM5 in retail packaging.
30 hours of battery life like the WH-1000XM4?
The pictures suggest an evolution of the design at the level of the arch, which would gain in finesse. And according to images of the alleged official packaging, Sony’s next noise-cancelling Bluetooth headset will offer compatibility with Google and Amazon Alexa voice assistants as well as 30-hour battery life, just like the WH-1000XM4. Information to be taken with tweezers for the moment.
One thing is certain, taking over from the WH-1000XM4 is a major challenge as these headphones shine with their audio quality, comfort, active noise reduction and battery life. Launched at €380 in 2020, the WH-1000XM4 is currently flirting with €250 on some sites, or even less on the occasion of the French Days.
