With the X90 Pro +, Vivo also has its flagship with a one-inch photo sensor

In China, the end of the year often rhymes with the release of the flagships which will not be marketed here until the beginning of the following year. And it’s Vivo that gets the ball rolling with a press conference announcing its X90 Pro+, along with a wider range of cheaper, but no less interesting, models.

The 1 inch sensor digs its hole

After the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Vivo is therefore the second manufacturer to introduce a 1-inch type sensor. The X90 Pro+ adopts the 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 (f/1.75 lens, 23mm eq.) coupled with a 50MP x2 telephoto module (IMX758, f/1.6 lens, 50mm eq.), a 64 Mpx sensor with periscopic zoom (Omnivison OV64B, eq. 90 mm), as well as a 48 Mpx ultra wide-angle (IMX598).

This latter sensor can only be found at Vivo, as it is a custom item for the company since its X50 model. An armada of sensors, always in partnership with the manufacturer Zeiss for the case of optics, and which should allow the X90 Pro + to rank among the best photophones on the market. Four modules that are housed in a round island with a back covered in leather. A large flash also comes to take place at his side. In the front, a 32 Mpx module sits in a punch.

The smartphone is not outdone on the video side, since it offers the possibility of filming up to 8K at 30 fps, in LOG, in Super RAW at 14 bits or even with a Pro mode to manage all the parameters.

But it’s not just the photo that will be the strong point of this new flagship. Indeed, the X90 Pro + is the first smartphone to benefit from an Oled Samsung E6 panel, the latest generation from South Korea. The display also benefits from LTPO 4.0 technology. Vivo promises maximum brightness at 1800 nits, one of the highest on Android. In itself, the screen offers a QHD + definition (3200 x 1440 pixels), a refresh rate at 120 Hz and support for Dolby Vision technology.

A week after the Snapdragon Summit, during which Vivo announced that it was a leading partner of Qualcomm, surprise: MediaTek was chosen by Vivo. Indeed, the X90 Pro + welcomes the Dimensity 9200, a new high-end processor from Taiwan. However, this is the model available in China. We can imagine that for a version dedicated to our countries, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 equips Vivo products. The brand, which maintains the vagueness, only mentions the presence of a chip engraved in 4 nm for its flagship, and evokes for the case of the X90 and X90 Pro a Dimensity 9200 and nothing else. In any case, the SoC is coupled with 12 GB of RAM as well as 256 or 512 GB of internal storage.

A 4800 mAh battery drives the X90 Pro +, accompanied by 80 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. Features that are reminiscent of what the X80 Pro released with us and that we tested. To contain the potential heat released by the new processor, Vivo has announced that it has integrated a much larger heatsink, which should theoretically offer fairly decent battery life, in addition to excellent performance.

In terms of the price, count a little less than 1000 € excluding taxes at the current exchange rate. For the moment, remember that this X90 Pro + is reserved for the Chinese market and that a European announcement is unlikely to take place before 2023.
