With these new features, Wear OS watches will make your life even easier

Google has announced several new features for watches equipped with Wear OS systems. In addition to new tiles, the Google Keep application has been revised, as has the integration of Adidas Running.

In a blog post published on December 1, Google unveiled a number of new features for its Android apps. The firm will notably offer new assembly functions for photos on Google Photos, a new reading mode on Android, a YouTube widget with the Material You interface or a car key loan function on smartphones.

Wear OS watches are also affected. Google has indeed announced the addition of new tiles for the interface of connected watches equipped with its operating system:

As we use our connected watches more and more, the tiles on Wear OS allow us to have the most important information in front of our eyes. You can already use the Google Maps tile to launch a navigation to your office or home from anywhere. Now we’re adding new tiles to help you do more — like contacting loved ones or seeing sunrise and sunset times to plan your day.

It must be said that Google has significantly improved the tile experience on Wear OS 3. The previous version of Google’s system did not allow tiles to be added to those preinstalled by the manufacturer. Now every app developer — including Google — can allow users to add apps to their home screen.

As a reminder, tiles are kinds of widgets that the user can swipe from right to left – or left to right – from the main dial. They make it possible to discover certain data from the applications installed on the watch without having to open them.

These are three new tiles that arrive on Wear OS watches. The first one, ” favorite contacts allows you to see your favorite contacts at a glance and contact them more easily. The second, for Google Maps, allows you to quickly launch a route search to your place of work or your home. The last will display the times of sunrise and sunset indicating the time of sunshine – or night – remaining.

New features for Google Keep and Google Assistant on Wear OS

Along with these three new tiles, Google also announced a redesign of its Google Keep app on Wear OS. The note-taking application will thus benefit from a new, more graphic interface, with the possibility of putting images in the background of each note.

Finally, Google Assistant is also expanding on Wear OS. It will now be able to understand when you want to start a workout using a voice command for more than 30 different sports activities. This function, already available on Google Fit, is now coming to the Adidas Running application, previously known as Runtastic. However, it is not available with Strava, nor with Fitbit, yet now a member of the Google family.

These different functions will be offered via an update in the coming weeks on Wear OS 3 watches. We can therefore expect availability not only on the Google Pixel Watch, but also on Samsung’s connected watches, the Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
