Meta is rolling out a new update for Messengerfirst on Android.

This new version has in particular the project to facilitate audio and video calls.

A new “Calls” tab on Messenger

It’s been a few years since Messenger is no longer a simple instant messaging application, and the latter allows (among other things) to make voice and video calls. The new update being rolled out focuses precisely on these same calls, with a new tab devoted to Android.

Thus, the new tab (called “Calls” in the English version) is available for Android users. It allows you to consult the history of your past calls and easily start a new voice/video call. The display mode could not be simpler, with a logo located to the right of the contact, a display very similar to what is already found in the Android Phone application.

Once the update is rolled out to as many people as possible, it should be much easier to make an actual phone call (or video call) to your contacts. Meta obviously aims to (re) highlight the possibilities offered by Messenger in terms of calls.

Meta indicates that audio and video calls have exploded in popularity on the platform, with a 40% increase compared to the start of 2020. In total, there are no less than 300 million calls (audio and video) who are on Messenger every day.
